It has been a while!

It's been a while.  Owning a Magic: the Gathering retail store and painting takes up some time.  I've been mostly using my Modfly facebook page so check that out here: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/pages/Modfly/282121408484646

Here are some newer alters:

Trundle, the Last Troll

As i'm finishing up my last few alters from SCG Baltimore, I am really starting to enjoy these character alters.  So, with that in mind,  I have come up with a great idea for Gatheringmagic.com's Altered Reality Challenge #4...  Winterize a card other than a basic land!  Stay tuned!

Oh and here is another League of Legends alter:

Everyone needs a little Goldblum in their life!

After sitting next to Eric Klug (you know THE Eric Klug, Master of the character alter) for all of SCG Baltimore, I picked up on a few things. First thing... less certainly is more. A Quality product will net you more in the long run than lots of speedy "get 'em done fast"'s. Secondly, the better you are the more you can charge. And the more you can charge, the more likely you will get some amazingly fun and crazy alter commissions. So my very first commission from SCG Baltimore is in the bag. Took my sweet time, and the result: A face only a mother could love.

Jeff Goldblum Human, and Jeff Goldblum Fly... You decide which is worse folks!!!

Brian Kibler/Daybreak Ranger

Had an Idea of something fun for me to try...

If you get it, good.  If you don't, it is really not worth explaining!

Flip This!

On the Eve of Innistrad, I came to the realization that I would be much happier painting my card pool rather than playing in the event.  Drop and paint!  Can you tell how much I enjoy my job?  My first task:
painting my very first flip card.  Ludevic's Test Subject/Ludevic's Abomination to be exact.

I have had plenty of time to think of ideas for these flipsters, and I fell upon Bruce Banner/Hulk images that I just had to use for this card!  Unfortunately once the groundwork was done on the cards with the primer and carbon transfer, my pens have officially died.  So these 2 alters are completely painted and not inked.  Boy did that take much longer! Anyway, I hope you enjoy!  This will be on eBay very shortly!

Adult Finger Painting!

I've noticed lately quite a few alterers starting to finger paint for texture.  So obviously I jumped on the band wagon.  Here is a fancy Hymn to Tourach displaying my first adult finger painting adventure!

SCG PITT PREVIEW SPECIAL! "Glassed"

Saturday is SCG Pitt and I have been working on some new things to display/sell!

One of the ideas I have always had in the back of my mind for card alters was to create them to appear as a stained glass window.  After a few botched attempts during my first months of altering, I promptly threw the idea on the back burner until I was able to manipulate the medium the way I needed.  Over a year later I am finally at a point where I can get the cards so flat you can't see the paint, perfect conditions to paint rigid black lines without them becoming fuzzy or rough.  Here is my first creation in my new "Glassed" series as well as a few more binder cards for SCG Pitt :

Busy Busy Busy

Owning my own MTG retail shop has been way more work than I had anticipated.  Been doing commissions but not really working on a lot of others.  Here is an alter I recently completed.   I'm up in the air about it but its a good starting off point.  I have yet to see one of these at least.

I will be painting both days at SCG Pitt at the end of the month.  It was a great time last time, and i'm sure it will be this time as well!

Comic characters are getting better!

I don't do these often, but I feel that since I'm putting my self so far out there now I am in need of this skill set.  So I have been practicing!

Legacy, Vintage and Cube! OH MY!

Merfolk always look great without borders
So today I want to share with you some new and some old alters that I find reflect the styles in which I choose to paint my alters.  Hope you enjoy!

Hot look for a hot card

A classic

What is scarier than seeing this destroy your lands?

Truly one of a kind

Almost 1 of a kind... 2 of these are floating around somewhere

Let them admire your painted cards while you storm... so they don't get bored

Fishy
Dredge hate that you just have to love
Another classic
It doesn't die so you can keep looking again and again
